Aquaman 2 Release Date: If you believed that DC Studios would overlook the immense triumph of its billion-dollar blockbuster hit Aquaman in 2018, you would be mistaken. Although there were some setbacks and a couple of thrilling horror projects in between, James Wan has returned to direct the ruler of the underwater kingdom in an all-new movie.
Aquaman was one of DC’s most successful films both critically and commercially, blending epic action sequences with an enjoyable, adventurous tone, and the occasional jump scare to showcase James Wan’s prowess as a skilled horror filmmaker.
At the moment, it seems that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will serve as the last installment in the current DC Extended Universe lineup before the upcoming DC Universe slate takes over.
Aquaman 2 Release Date
With a release date of December 25, 2023, in the US and December 29 in the UK, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom aims to capture the hearts of audiences during the festive holiday season.
Initially scheduled to hit theaters during the Christmas season of 2022, the movie’s release has faced multiple postponements, with the first being moved to March 2023 and then eventually rescheduled to December 2023.
While the winter release proved to be successful for its predecessor, Aquaman, there are concerns about whether the upcoming film’s release, following Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, during the holiday season will cause audience fatigue for aquatic-themed movies.
Since there is still a considerable amount of time before the film’s December release, there has been no official announcement regarding the runtime of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Thankfully, Jason Momoa will be reprising his role as the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry, the King of Atlantis, in Aquaman’s sequel, without whom the film would feel incomplete.
Amber Heard is also set to return in her role as Princess Mera, the love interest from the Xebel kingdom, which she played in the first film.
Willem Dafoe will reprise his role as the royal vizier Nuidis Vulko, and Patrick Wilson will return as Orm Marius, Curry’s half-brother and foe in the upcoming film.
Dolph Lundgren is also set to return as Nereus, the Xebel king and Mera’s father, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will reprise his role as the pirate foe David Kane, who dons an armored suit to become the Black Manta in the upcoming movie.

Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman are both set to return as Arthur’s parents, Thomas and Atlanna, respectively, while Randall Park will be reprising his role as the Atlantis-obsessed scientist, Dr. Stephen Shin, in the upcoming film.
Pilou Asbæk has been cast in an unspecified role in the upcoming film, while Vincent Regan is set to play Atlan, the original King of Atlantis. Additionally, Ben Affleck is rumored to make a cameo appearance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the movie.
Indya Moore has been cast as Karshon, and Jani Zhao is set to play Stingray in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
What is the plot of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?
While the specifics of the plot are currently being kept under wraps, the upcoming movie will feature Arthur donning a new, sleek black suit for his latest adventure.
Since Momoa has been involved in the writing process of the film, there is a good chance that the movie will retain the fun and thrilling tone of the first installment, while also venturing into darker and more confident territory, similar to the Trench sequence in the previous film.
According to former DC Studios executive Walter Hamada, the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is being described as a “buddy comedy” featuring Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Patrick Wilson’s King Orm.
Is there a trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?
As the film is still almost a year away from its release, there isn’t much information available about it yet. So far, we only have one image of the new Aquaman suit, the title, and its logo, but nothing else to go on.
Since there are three other DC films set to be released before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it’s natural for DC Studios to hold off on revealing too much about the movie for now. It’s unlikely that we’ll get anything more than a teaser post before The Flash is released.
